I get panic attacks when I drive far distances

I don’t like to drive long distances away from my home because I get panic attacks.

Sometimes panic attacks can be very frightening.

They cause me to lose control and feel like I am completely helpless. Panic attacks happen in stressful situations and I feel very stressed out when I have to drive a long distance. If I have to drive over the mountain, sometimes I have to get someone else to do the driving. Panic attacks can cause physical symptoms or pain and they can be mentally debilitating. My little brother was with his girlfriend and they got into a fight. She refused to take him back to the house and he called me. It was late at night and he was on the other side of the valley. I had to drive over the mountain pass in the middle of the night when it was dark outside. The only thing that could have made the drive worse was if it was raining. I really hate the rain and I probably would have paid $200 for an Uber instead of taking the 40 mile drive to pick up my brother. I smoked a marijuana joint before I left the house. I don’t regularly smoke marijuana and then drive, but it actually helped me feel more calm and regulated. Usually I start to feel panicked by the time I hit the area near the bridge, but I didn’t feel terrible until I got to the river and I think that the marijuana joint was the reason why. I also smoked a marijuana joint before making the drive back to the house.
