My brother got fired after using recreational marijuana

Recreational marijuana is legal in my state, but there is still a possibility that someone could lose their job after using the drug.

Unfortunately, there are lots of companies with zero-tolerance drug policies which means an employee can lose their job if they test positive for marijuana. This is especially true for a lot of the construction companies in my town. And unfortunately, my brother found this out the hard way. Ever since recreational cannabis became legal in our state, my brother has been using the drug on the weekends. To be honest, I am not sure how frequently he used recreational marijuana, so I can’t speak about that, but I know that he is a regular at the weed dispensary here in our town. Anyway, my brother works in construction, and a few weeks ago, there was a major accident on the jobsite that he was working on. As part of the rules and regulations, when an accident of that severity happens on a jobsite, the employees can be drug tested as part of protocol. Well, my brother was selected for a drug test, which he failed because there was marijuana detected on the test. If you don’t already know, marijuana can remain in the system for weeks after use, so if you plan on starting a new job or if you work for a company that can legally drug test their employees, then you may want to reconsider using recreational marijuana even though it’s legal in the state that you live in. Either way, my brother was let go from his job along with a few more of his crew members and all because they all had traces of marijuana in their test. You live and you learn.
