You can’t smoke cannabis if you work in certain government jobs

I never worked for the public sector, despite having an assortment of different jobs over the years.

At first I was a deckhand for a mariner in my home city, but then I took a job as an apprentice mechanic for my uncle’s auto shop business.

When I realized that I wasn’t cut out for that kind of work, I moved into the food service industry where I have been for the past 15 years. However, a close friend of mine got hired by the city government right out of college and has worked throughout different branches of the public sector since. This wasn’t a problem until he started smoking cannabis in his late 20s. While he put it off for years, he decided to try cannabis after sustaining a back injury while skiing on vacation. He found that cannabis did more for his back pain than anything else beyond highly addictive opiate pain killers. Unfortunately, government jobs drug test so he was in a tough situation when he had to leave one position to apply to a similar job in a different city. He had to buy synthetic urine and conceal it in his groin as he went into the drug test that day. He learned that the county government had a zero tolerance policy with THC in the bloodstream. Luckily he was able to get the job and passed the drug test with no issues. I’m happy that my boss is supportive of his employees using cannabis because he uses it himself. It would be really stressful working in an anti-marijuana environment.
