My dad used to have to grow his own crops

My dad told me that because he grew up on the farm he had to grow his own crops.

I could sit and listen to my old man talk for hours on end, his upbringing is really fascinating to me, since it is such a departure from my own life experiences.

I grew up a suburban kid, with your normal suburban kid problems, but when he was my age he was taking care of livestock, putting up fences, and driving a truck. Anything the family wanted or needed, they had to do it on their own, from heat to food to shelter. So when my pop, as a teenager, wanted to smoke marijuana, he had to grow the marijuana himself. These days we literally have a cannabis dispensary at the end of the street, and they are building another one across town. Growing my own marijuana plants always seemed to me that it was more work than necessary, because to me marijuana had always been very easy to obtain. For my old man it was a different time and place, a different way of life, and he grew his own marijuana crops for years. He said that by the time he was graduating high school he had a small field of hemp and marijuana, and he was able to pay for his community college night classes with the profits. It’s funny, he still laughs at me and says “kids today don’t know how to work for their marijuana, you just go to the store.” Let’s just hope they never make marijuana illegal again!
