Profitable “cash crops” that I’m trying my best to grow

Being the son of a farmer, I have had to learn the hard way about how to research the market prior to planting crops.

Trends vary in agriculture just as they do in any industry, and if no one is buying a unique crop, it is best not to plant hundreds of acres of it! The other factor that you need to consider is the import and export fees, taxes, and the markets themselves.

While these can vary greatly from year to year as well, one year corn may be the crop of choice while the next year it is over saturated. There is a new, emerging crop that has the potential to be easily lucrative in the next few years as well as beyond. That, of course, is Marijuana. Many farmers have decided to lease their fields out, and let marijuana farmers grow plants to make larger profits. It pays to let go of the traditional farming mentality, and make way for this growing industry. Marijuana farming companies are willing to pay tons of money to farmers with fertile lands, as they can grow their crops in that area and improve the place with special farming systems. This only adds to the value of the property, and gives the farmers added access to water as well! Putting in an irrigation system would also work wonders, as it will help the farmer to have it in place for his own crops in the future. Should a supplier decide that they want to purchase the land, he can make a hefty profit on that too!
